"Microsoft" Patch Virus Messages
Does anyone know if the flurry of these things appearing in the newsgroups
recently is due to people maliciously sending them, or if the virus is sending itself to addresses in the users address book? |

"Microsoft" Patch Virus Messages
The virus can find newsgroup addresses and post messages there. From the
information on the following page: http://www.datafellows.com/v-descs/swen.shtml "The worm can post its e-mails to newsgroups, the names of which it finds during searching process. The worm sends the same kind of messages as it sends via e-mail. "Microsoft" Patch Virus Messages
If a person gets infected, presumably the virus sends the message to every entry in the address
book(s). Does anybody know whether this happens repeatedly, or just once? i.e. could one infected person be responsible for hundreds of posts to the same newsgroup? Worse - the cleverer worms search all files for e-mail addresses, such as archived newsgroup postings such as those created by Outlook Express. Does anybody know whether this happens repeatedly, or just once? i.e. could one infected person be responsible for hundreds of posts to the same newsgroup? Yup. Some worms create their own outgoing e-mail services that run in the background posting e-mails until they're killed. -- Never attach files. Snip unnecessary quoted text. Never multipost (though crossposting is usually OK). Don't change subject lines because it corrupts Google newsgroup archives. |
