Default recurring tasks

When I try to delete or edit a recurring appointment in Outlook calendar, I
get the message "can't open this item. The object could not be found." So I
can't get rid of them or edit them. Any thoughts?

Have you updated to the latest Service Pack?
there are a few issues of this type that were fixed by Service packs.
