You will need PowerPoint to do this, but you might be able to get a 30-day
trial for free:

Where can I download a copy of PowerPoint?

Additionally, you might find that other free tools, such as OpenOffice.org
can do what you want.

Are you in Normal View (View Normal)?

It is possible the presentation you've been given is password protected or
has an embedded font. Do you get any error/messages when you open the file?

You wouldn't be trying to double-click a PPS file by chance would you? If
so, open PowerPoint first, then click "File", "Open", and browse to the
folder where it resides and select it. If you received it by e-mail you
will need to save the attachment first.

If this isn't it, holler back with more info.
