Default "Edit Text" Menu Item

Absolutely, but I just haven't found any app that would save MS Office
Drawing format files...

Might be. Might also be that the MS Office Drawing format would allow to add
the "Edit Text" behavior to image files - are you aware of any apps that
create/edit MS Office Drawing format images and allow saving them to files?

No, but when you copy something in most Office apps, one of the formats on the clipboard will be
MS Office Drawing format. If you've got a way of saving that to file, that'd be a starting
point.

That's what we've tried to do, but it seems this "extra data" is in some
undocumented format (we haven't been able to access it using the Win32 API
wmf functions), so we haven't been able to add it to wmf files we've created
ourselves. Nor have we found any application that's capable of creating wmf
files that expose the "Edit Text" menu item.

I haven't run across any docs for this.

Wondering out loud ... could it be a MS Office drawing format file with a WMF extension?

On my box, it's at C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\MEDIA\OFFICE12\AutoShap\BD18204_.wmf, but most (if not all) of the
files in that directory expose the "Edit Text" menu.

Bingo ... I have that.
No need to respond to my email from earlier.

From looking at the insides of the file, I'm guessing that it's got a bit of extra data
added to it that tells Office to treat it as an AutoShape rather than an ordinary
imported graphic.

It might be worth inserting a few of these, saving them out again as WMF and then
comparing the two files to see how they differ and if there's any pattern.

BD18204_.wmf is a file that ships with PowerPoint and exposes the "Edit Text"
menu. So far, we've tried with PowerPoint 2003 and PowerPoint 2007.

For whatever reason, I don't have that one.

Any chance you could email me a copy to poke at?

Remind me in the email what this is about, attach the file and email to steve

I'm trying to create a graphics file (tried to create a wmf, but any vector
graphics format would do), which would expose the "Edit Text" menu item, when
added as a Clip Art to a PowerPoint slide. Many of the Clip Art wmf files
that ship with PowerPoint expose the "Edit Text" menu item, when
right-clicking the image on a slide (eg. ?).

Which ones specifically, and what version of PPT do you use?

Nevertheless, none of the wmf
files that I have created (with several applications) expose the "Edit Text"
menu item. I need to create files, because they will be distributed to users
(together with other files), who will then add the images to their slides -
just like the Clip Art images that ships with PowerPoint.

I don't know of any offhand either ... sure would be a handy thing for this and other reasons.
