Default table view "By Month"

I would like to create a view similar to the "By Category" view but have the
calendar items grouped "By Month". It seems like a simple task but I've
been unsuccessful and haven't found anything on the web.

There's no simple way to do this because Outlook treats dates as one field,
not separated into months, days, years, etc. You would have to add a custom
field to the Calendar folder and assign the month number to each item in
order to sort or group by that field.

Default table view "By Month"

I have added a User-defined field that uses the Month([Start]) formula to
determine the month. However, this field is not displayed in any selection
list under the "Group By" screens.

Suggestions on how to make that happen?

I saw that as well but it doesn't really apply to my goal. I want to show
Events/Dates grouped by Month. Events may or may not recur. The birthday
example also uses a category to narrow it down.

Thanks for the reply though. I'm glad it's not just me. I find it hard to
believe that this request hasn't surfaced before and even more suprised that
a solution is not possible.
