When I start up a Word document, the Page/Sec/At/Ln/Col
sections of the status bar are now working. How do I
make them active?

Are you in Normal view with repagination disabled (Tools | Options |

Thanks for the reply. The repagination is checked, but
it is greyed out and I don't know how to change that.

You're in Wrap to Window mode. Therefore the text is not corresponding
to its real pages, and page and line information becomes meaningless.
Go to Tools, Options, View tab, and uncheck Wrap to Window.
