Microsoft's reply would be that these are system requirements for the
beta version and are subject to change for the release version.
You can expect Outlook to require and use less RAM in the release
version. How much though is anyone's guess. If it will be enough to
revise system requirements is an open question as well.
You can add the Print Preview icon to your QAT, if you'd like to. Just
right-click on it and say add to QAT.

I'll admit I didn't look at the system requirements for Outlook.

256MB Ram minimum...EGAD! That's a whole operating system on its
own!!! Crap you can run Windows XP Pro on less RAM...

I can see this being a downer point in trying to sell Office/Outlook to
clients. Talk about a memory hog, for what, cute icons?

Like Print Preview, look at the mess to get to it, miss the Toolbar
icon...

that just having the minimum requirement isn't going to make this beta
version very happy.
What kinds of hangs did you experience?

I notice that after install "Business Contact Manager" outlook turns very,
very slow, not only starting up and hangs everytime and everywhere. Then I
uninstall BCM and speed is ok now.

This on a 2.8GHz w/512MB.

Outlook keeps giving me a "SearchIndexer" pop up errors (about 3 of
them at a time), and I don't have Adobe Pro installed.

Searching Google has suggestions to turn Searchindexer off, but they
still show.

When you have Outlook closed before you shut your computer down, verify
with the task manager that the outlook.exe process doesn't exist
anymore. Outlook might not be shown on the screen anymore, but is in
fact still running quite frequently.
If you don't use BCM, you should see if you can't remove it via Control
Panel, Add or Remove Programs. I have never installed it, so I don't
know how you would find it there besides suggesting the obvious
Microsoft Office Business Contact Manager...

I have also noted the sluggishness when launching. Moreover, I quite
frequently receive the following error message when launching Outlook:

"The data file 'Maibox - lastname, firstname' was not closed properly. The
file is being checked for problems."

Obviously, the file checking procedure adds greatly to the already lethargic
startup time. I should note that I do, in fact, close Outlook properly each
time before shutting down my PC. So, I should not be receiving this error
message. The last time I launched Outlook (just a few minutes ago), I
received a message that Business Contact Manager was causing problems and
asking me if I wanted to disable BCM. I said "yes"; I have no use for BCM
and hopefully this might help with the above described issues.

Ah yes, you are correct, and I noticed it earlier but IMHO this is a
step backwards

Not only in your opinion...That dialog is a cumbersome to use mess. As
it seems though, this won't change.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why do I have to put out the effort of
clicking on each stupid line entry to read it below, when something
simple as a column resize could be in place, then I can glance at the
whole list in one view instead of looking up and down and up and
down...?

Thought Office was suppose to SPEED me up, not slow me down. Same with
Print Preview...

Well just rebooted and launched Outlook.

It opened to a blank looking "box" (the size of Outlook program) for
about 20 seconds and then a pop up about downloading the update for
Instant Search.

Clicked download and it booted me off this instance of MSIE to get to
Microsoft instead of opening a new browser window.

Downloaded the "update" and running it. Wow, either it is a slow
installer or big program...

Well Outlook is in hourglass mode now for about a minute and the hard
drive light is going nuts. Clicked on Outlook and (Not Responding)
shows...but could be just a memory flush issue.

Silly question, do I really need the Desktop Search feature?

Guess I'll let it go through my hard drive and index. Thought I heard
at a MS seminar that indexing was suppose to be done during idle or low
CPU times.

Ha, doncha love it. Tried closing Outlook (Not Responding) got a
Forced close window, restarts Outlook and does an error check, then
shuts down Outlook again with a send error message to Microsoft.

Outlook tried restarting and back into blank window box and Not
Responding.

Oh I love infinite loops ;-)

BTW, hard drive light still going nuts and inbetween cycles I can type
here. Guess I'll go for coffee now as I can't really do anything till
this Desktop Indexer is done.

I know, I know, it's a Beta (2).

Progress, yep.

Yes, I know about the uncheck "Restart Outlook" box in the pop up
report error to microsoft window, but what the heck I want to read my
emails...

Otherwise don't include that option right?

Well I agree that that dialog is far from perfect I do not get the reference
on how this would slow you down. I'm not trying to offend you or anything
but how much of your total Outlook time are you actually looking at that
dialog? To be honest, from a customer point of view, I wish there wasn't
even a need for that dialog; it's mainly used for troubleshooting.

Also, what is wrong with the new Print Preview? There is absolutely no way
that this slows you down compared with the previous version of Outlook
especially when you talk about Print Preview for HTML formatted e-mails; it
was non existend in the previous version unless when you opened the message
first.

Thanks Roady, no offence taken.

Print Preview was on the Toolbar, now one has to add it manually?
