Default Section break (next page) doesn't work properly...

Hi,

My document is a master document and I would like to
create a section break (next page) between every sub-
document, by the default when I insert a sub-document it
creates a section break (next page) but for some reason
sometimes it creates a section break (continuous). So
when I try to change them to a Section break (next page)
via the layout tab in the "File/Page Setup" menu the
Section break stays as a continuous...? Do you have an
idea how to change the Section Break from continuous to
next page? Any advice is welcome.

Default

It's probably not the section break that doesn't work properly, but
something else....

Why Master Documents corrupt:

How to recover a Master Document:

Steve Hudson on how to make Master Documents work safely:

Warning: this statement is made in complete ignorance! you could try
removing the subdoc and re-adding it in hopes Word gets it right the next
time.
