Default Selecting text problem

I'm having a problem selecting text in Work 2007. When I try selecting to the
end of a paragraph, Word automatically selects the paragraph marking, thus
selecting the entire paragraph. This also happens when I select to the end of
a line that includes the paragraph marking. In previous versions of Word,
this wasn't the case.

Please let me know if there is an option I can turn off to return to the
original workings of Word. Thank you.

Default Selecting text problem

Way down in the list of "advanced options" (buried deep in Word
Options near the lower right of Office Button panel), there's
something referring to Smart Paragraph Selecting (or something like
that). When that is checked, Word insists on including the paragraph
mark in a selection. (Just like "Smart Word Selecting" or something
like that, which insists on selecting an entire word when you just
want to select a few letters in the word.)

Thank you for responding.

I tried what you recommended, but it still selects the entire paragraph. I'm
using the keyboard shortcuts:
Control - Shift - Down arrow
or Shift - End
or Shift - Down arrow

When using any of these three to select to the end of a paragraph, the
selection includes the paragraph marking even when I turned off smart
paragraph selection. Is this just a bug, or is there another option that will
correct this problem? Thanks for your help.

Still holding down on the selection shortcuts, you can press the left
arrow to deselect the paragraph mark.

That's because those are ways of selecting entire paragraphs!

The simplest way is either to drag across what you want to select, or
to put the cursor at the beginning of the passage, then Shift-click
precisely after the last character you want to include.
