Inserting cells in a table

I have a table in Microsoft Word 2003 with 6 columns and 10 rows. I would
like to add another cell at the bottom of column 6 without insert a whole
row. Is this possible?

Probably, but do you really want a single cell sticking out of the bottom of
the table or do you (a) need to split the bottom cell in a given column or
(b) have an entire row with borders applied only to a single cell? If this
is for, say, a total cell, the usual way is to insert an entire row and use
just the one cell (removing borders from the remainder if desired).

I would normally use method (b), but I am trying to replicate what somebody
else has done and that seems to be a cell sticking out the bottom.

Okay, yes, it's possible, but the only way I can see to do it so the cell is
on the right is to draw it using the Draw Table (pencil) button on the
Tables and Borders toolbar. If you wanted it on the left, you can select the
cells to the right, right-click, and choose Delete Cells, but that doesn't
work for one on the right.

I would still tend to do this differently to avoid using the Draw Table
feature, which I consider dangerous: the most screwed-up tables I've ever
seen have been created that way!

Just add a row and remove the borders from the cells that you do not wish to
appear as being part of the table.
