If you want roman numerals for page numbers, go to the first page and on the
Insert menu click Section and pick the number format you want. Otherwise

Deggers,

Type an "X" type an "I"....

Are you trying to create a numbered list with the Roman mumerals? If so,
choose Bullets and Numbering from the Format drop down list. then click on
the Numbering tab. Then click the little drop down arrow at the right of the
Format window, scroll down to where you see "I,II,III..." Click OK.
If that's not what you were looking for, please explain.

Why not just type in the capital letters? It sounds like you're putting
waaaaaay too much into this.
