Default Outlook Calendar Sharing Publishing/Syncing Work Around

It has come to our attention that some users are experiencing problems with
their Outlook Calendar Sharing. I am here to let you know that we are
actively working on the problem, and we’ll keep you up-to-date as we learn
more. We currently have two workarounds (listed below) which will allow you
to continue to use the Outlook Calendar Sharing Service.

Common Symptoms:
• When publishing a calendar to Office Online, Outlook prompts user to sign
in, upon doing so Outlook throws an error stating “The upload of ‘calendar
name’ failed.”
• When refreshing Outlook’s Inbox via ‘Send/Receive’, Outlook prompts user
to sign in, upon doing so Outlook throws an error stating “The upload of
‘calendar name’ failed.”
• Online Calendar does not appear to be syncing with Outlook

Workaround #1:
This workaround will allow you to continue the Outlook Calendar Sharing
service without the need to republish your calendars. This workaround has
only been verified to work with Windows Vista. Note: This workaround may
not work for all users.

1) Close Outlook.
2) Open Internet Explorer (Note: this walkthrough will be explained using
Internet Explorer 8)
3) In the top right, click Safety to open the dropdown.
4) Click Delete Browsing History… to open the Delete Browsing History window.
5) Uncheck Preserve Favorites website data.
6) Check Temporary Internet files, Cookies, History, Form data, Passwords,
InPrivate Filtering data.
7) Click Delete.
8) Using Internet Explorer, go to: http://office.microsoft.com/.
9) In the top right corner, click Sign in.
10) On the sign in page, enter your Email address and Password.
11) Click Save my e-mail address and password, make sure you select this
field and not the other two.
12) Click Sign in.
13) Open Outlook, at this time you should be able to publish calendars and
sync with the Outlook Calendar Sharing Service.

Workaround #2:
Use this workaround as a last resort, using this method will require you to
republish and share your calendars.

1) Open Outlook
2) Open Account Settings. If you are using Outlook 2007 you can find
Account Settings under Tools - Account Settings. If you are using Outlook
2010 Beta you can find Account Settings under File - Account Settings -
Account Settings….
3) Click Published Calendars tab in the Account Settings window.
4) Select your existing Calendars and click Remove.
5) Click Yes to the window that appears asking if you would like to stop
publishing the calendar.
6) At this moment, a window will appear stating Outlook cannot delete the
calendars through the client and will ask if you want to delete the calendars
via http://office.microsoft.com; if this window appears click Yes, from here
you must delete all your online calendars using Internet Explorer. If this
window does not appear, it is recommended you open Internet Explorer and go
to: http://office.microsoft.com, sign into the Outlook Calendar Sharing
Service and delete all of your online calendars.
7) Return to Outlook once all your online calendars have been deleted from
the Outlook Calendar Sharing website.
8) Inside Outlook return to Account Settings and then to the Published
Calendars tab.
9) Click Change Account… which can be found on the Published Calendars tab.
10) Click Yes on the window which warns you that all calendars currently
published to Office Online will no longer be published.
11) Click Sign in on the Office Online / Office.com Registration window. If
you are already signed in, click Sign Out and close the window, and return to
Step 9.
12) Type your Email Address and Password.
13) Select Save my e-mail address and password.
14) Click Sign in.
15) Click Finish.
16) Republish and share your calendars. More Information on how to do this
can be found he
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ou...809831033.aspx.

Default Outlook Calendar Sharing Publishing/Syncing Work Around

Thank you for the post. I have been having this problem for about two weeks.

Work around #1 did not work for me. (same error message: The upload of
"Calendar" fialed. There was a problem uploading
the file to the server. )

Work around #2 did allow me to publish the calendar.

BUT: Now I cannot subscribe to the calendar.

When I attempt to subscribe to the calendar I get the following error:

Cannot verify or add the calendar to outlook. Make sure the following
link is a valid calendar link:

The link is the link that was sent with the publish of the calendar (that I
had just performed)

Is there a work around for this problem.

Default Outlook Calendar Sharing Publishing/Syncing Work Around

I got the same error- I went to ofice.com and signed in with the
subscriber's liveid and then I was able to subscribe to the calendar.
Basically, the authentication problem affects both the publisher and
subscriber and both will need to use the workarounds.

Default Outlook Calendar Sharing Publishing/Syncing Work Around

Hi Tim,

Did you delete your old online calendars found on office.microsoft.com
(Workaround 2: Step6) before you attempted to republish them?

If you did not remove your old calendars and you did republish a calendar
that was already published to the Calendar Sharing Service, the newly
uploaded calendar will append a [1] to the calendar file. Example:
calendarname[1].ics. This could be the reason why an old subscribe email may
not be able to find the calendar link/file.

In order to subscribe to the newly uploaded calendar, you will need to Share
your calendar again; when you Share a calendar it will send an email with the
new calendar address.

You can find more information on how to Share a calendar he

Update:

Workaround #1 also works with Windows XP and Windows 7. However if you are
using Windows 7, there is another step involved.

For workaround #1: Step 2 & 8, Windows 7 users must open Internet Explorer by:
1) Click on Start Menu
2) Go to All Programs
3) Right Click on Internet Explorer
4) Click Run as Administrator

I had the same error - I logged into office online with the subscriber
liveid and saved the user/password then I could subscribe to the calendar
the other liveid published. (The subscriber account is on a VPC so its
isolated from the publisher.)

Also, when I tried to add the subscriber (using Change publishing options)
it wouldn't accept my password. I deleted the liveid credentials from
control panel, user accounts, credentials and logged back into office
online. Then it worked. (Outlook 2010 32bit and Win7 64)

Thank you.

Yes... I deleted the old calendars online before tryiing to republish.

After work around #2, I could republish.

But, I could not subscribe to the calendars. I tried logging in to live.com
with the subscriber's ID, but it did not make any difference. I also tried
subscribing from more than one computer and got the same error:

Cannot verify or add the calendar to Outlook.

in my case, the work arounds involving logging into live.com did not work on
either the server or client end.

Default Outlook Calendar Sharing Publishing/Syncing Work Around

Christian,

Thanks for that but big problem the

As the originator of the calendar I want to share on my work laptop, I sign
in as my username and password and save all that and calendar HAS uploaded.
I have done this before and it only allows upload once, never again.

Further, once again as the originator of that calendar, I can share the
calendar with others but now can only do so IF they know my username and
password which is obviously out of the question. As a result, I can
certainly get my own calendar, at home, from work ONCE at least but never
again because I can logon using my own username and password and then I can
go delete it, upload it all over again and do the same ONCE again and that
is that. However, no other person can get my calendar using Office Online
and Outlook 2007 on their own machines. So, the original functionality of
the shared calendar via Office Online is definitely gone.

In the end it is easier for me to save the calendar on my work laptop,
upload it to some unlinked directory on my domain and hook to it from there
and tell others I want to see it exactly how to get it on their Outlook
2007. In fact it is easier that way because all I need to really do is
remember to save and upload it rather than use Outlook 2007 to upload to
Microsoft, let everyone get it, go delete it when the next change occurs and
sign in all over again and upload it.

I understand the time of year is a problem and so it wont be fixed soon so
no worries but I do hope they plan to fix the problem. I did enjoy just
using it and allowing everyone who needed to know what was on my calendar at
any given time.

Oh sure - I could buy Exchange, use the Google method and a lot of other
workarounds but my own workaround is less fuss. Please tell me they plan to
fix this in the not too distant future!

Default Outlook Calendar Sharing Publishing/Syncing Work Around

You have to sign in fully with your email address and password in order to
subscribe to it at the other end.

In the end it is easier to save the ICS and upload it to your own domain or
just email the ICS to other Outlook 2007 users you want to see it.

10) On the sign in page, enter your Email address and Password.
11) Click Save my e-mail address and password, make sure you select this
field and not the other two.
12) Click Sign in.
13) Open Outlook, at this time you should be able to publish calendars
and
sync with the Outlook Calendar Sharing Service.

Workaround #2:
Use this workaround as a last resort, using this method will require you
to
republish and share your calendars.

1) Open Outlook
2) Open Account Settings. If you are using Outlook 2007 you can find
Account Settings under Tools - Account Settings. If you are using
Outlook
2010 Beta you can find Account Settings under File - Account Settings -
Account Settings….
3) Click Published Calendars tab in the Account Settings window.
4) Select your existing Calendars and click Remove.
5) Click Yes to the window that appears asking if you would like to stop
publishing the calendar.
6) At this moment, a window will appear stating Outlook cannot delete the
calendars through the client and will ask if you want to delete the
calendars
via http://office.microsoft.com; if this window appears click Yes, from
here
you must delete all your online calendars using Internet Explorer. If
this
window does not appear, it is recommended you open Internet Explorer and
go
to: http://office.microsoft.com, sign into the Outlook Calendar Sharing
Service and delete all of your online calendars.
7) Return to Outlook once all your online calendars have been deleted
from
the Outlook Calendar Sharing website.
8) Inside Outlook return to Account Settings and then to the Published
Calendars tab.
9) Click Change Account… which can be found on the Published Calendars
tab.
10) Click Yes on the window which warns you that all calendars currently
published to Office Online will no longer be published.
11) Click Sign in on the Office Online / Office.com Registration window.
If
you are already signed in, click Sign Out and close the window, and
return to
Step 9.
12) Type your Email Address and Password.
13) Select Save my e-mail address and password.
14) Click Sign in.
15) Click Finish.
16) Republish and share your calendars. More Information on how to do
this

Default Outlook Calendar Sharing Publishing/Syncing Work Around

That is what I did but it doesn't help with those people who don't know your
username and password who you want to see the calendar, unfortunately.

The two methods that work without all this hassle and allow others to see
your calendar a

1) Email the calendar to whomever and get them to import it.
2) Upload it to somewhere on internet where it isn't linked for all to see
and send the link to others you want to see it, complete with full file
name. If they download it, they can have Outlook 2007 include it
automatically.

Of course, neither of those methods beats the pre-problem sharing through
Microsoft but they will do until the problem is fixed.

I got the same error- I went to ofice.com and signed in with the
subscriber's liveid and then I was able to subscribe to the calendar.
Basically, the authentication problem affects both the publisher and
subscriber and both will need to use the workarounds.

Thank you for the post. I have been having this problem for about two
weeks.

Make sure the
following
link is a valid calendar link:

The link is the link that was sent with the publish of the calendar (that
I
had just performed)

Is there a work around for this problem.

It has come to our attention that some users are experiencing problems
with
their Outlook Calendar Sharing. I am here to let you know that we are
actively working on the problem, and we’ll keep you up-to-date as we
learn
more. We currently have two workarounds (listed below) which will allow
you
to continue to use the Outlook Calendar Sharing Service.

Common Symptoms:
• When publishing a calendar to Office Online, Outlook prompts user to
sign
in, upon doing so Outlook throws an error stating “The upload of
‘calendar
name’ failed.”
• When refreshing Outlook’s Inbox via ‘Send/Receive’, Outlook prompts
user
to sign in, upon doing so Outlook throws an error stating “The upload of
‘calendar name’ failed.”
• Online Calendar does not appear to be syncing with Outlook

Workaround #1:
This workaround will allow you to continue the Outlook Calendar Sharing
service without the need to republish your calendars. This workaround
has
only been verified to work with Windows Vista. Note: This workaround
may
not work for all users.

1) Close Outlook.
2) Open Internet Explorer (Note: this walkthrough will be explained
using
Internet Explorer 8)
3) In the top right, click Safety to open the dropdown.
4) Click Delete Browsing History… to open the Delete Browsing History
window.
5) Uncheck Preserve Favorites website data.
6) Check Temporary Internet files, Cookies, History, Form data,
Passwords,
InPrivate Filtering data.
12) Click Sign in.

sync with the Outlook Calendar Sharing Service.
