Default word document "locked"

I am trying to make changes to a document and I can't
because I get a message saying the document is locked.
How do I unlock it?

If you're using Word 2002 or 2003, have you activated it? From Word,
click on Help | Activate Product. If you're already activated, you'll
get a message saying that. If you haven't, an activation wizard will start.

I don't have an answer. But I share this problem.

Tech support couldn't unlock it. Perhaps it is a "glitch"
in this program. Dell, and MS tech support could not
solve it. I had to uninstall the program to get out of
it! OUCH!!
If you find an answer please forward it to me.
Thank you.

See the article "I keep getting files that I am working on locked for
editing. Word only allows me to open them read-only" at:
