Default "Beta" symbol

I cannot find the "Beta" symbol among the symbols listed to insert in Word. I
run Office XP Professional at home, but started my current project at the
university with Office 2003. I need to maintain continuity throughout, so the
symbol is integral. Help, please!

Did you try the "WP Greek" symbol fonts?

In any reasonably large Unicode font (such as Times New Roman or Arial),
look at the Basic Greek character subset. Capital beta is glyph 0392;
lowercase beta is 03B2. These characters also appear in the Symbol font. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/InsertSpecChars.htm for a variety of ways
to insert these characters.
