My stored message folders have been overwritten

I added a new identity to OE6.0. Then under Tools---Maintenance---Options ---Store Folder, I changed the location to the Drive where my mail is stored.

OE just overwrote everything. My old messages were lost.

I then restore from backup, (Win XP) but now OE does not read those messages. I tried importing them but that didn't work either.

I reloaded OE6.0 but that didn't help either.

Please help. I need my messages

If your backup was to a CD, those DBX files are marked Read Only and that
attribute will need to be cleared first before an import can work. Try
copying the old backed up DBX files to a folder you create on your Desktop,
then select all the DBX files, right click selecting Properties, and clear
the Read Only attribute. Then try the import, selecting from a message
store and point to the folder on your Desktop with the DBX files.
