Why does Word always lock subs in a master document?
Hello group,
Recently we have been playing with master document and sups and Webworks Publisher for Word. WWP gives an error while reading the master document, as it "canīt read" them, although it should (as it is mentioned in its help) I strongly suspect my errors with WWP come from locked subs, because: When opening the master doc in Word, the subs are always locked and reduced, even if I saved the master while the subs were expanded an unlocked. My questions now a 1. Is this "normal" word behaviour, when it opens master docs with reduced and locked subs? 2. How can I coax word into not reducing and not locking? Do I have to set something in the master or the subs or both? Iīd really appreciate any hints on this. Thank you in advance, Bye. |

Hi D.V.,
In general, Word Master Documents feature is one that doesn't come too highly recommended. http://word.mvps.org/faqs/General/RecoverMasterDocs.htm You may want to check with the folks in the Word Document Management newsgroup for information on using or alternatives to using Master Documents: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof....docmanagement or the WebWorks PUbliser 2003 for Word forum http://webworks.com/support ========= "DV" wrote in message om... Privately I havenīt used this featuer at all. I always worked with containers and text insets by reference. But, you know, the powers that be think differently. or the WebWorks PUbliser 2003 for Word forum http://webworks.com/support Good idea. But does anyone know whether Word really locks subs in a master doc upon saving? If so, is there a way to make word not to behave like that? Thanks in advance, Bye. FK. |

Why does Word always lock subs in a master document?
Hi F.K.,
The answer is a 'maybe' (i.e. it can be conditional). For example, if the author of the document isn't the person opening it then it would likely be locked. http://support.microsoft.com/default...us;180142&FR=1 You may want to check with the folks in the long documents newsgroup for more information (and let them know you already read the article about not using Master documents g) news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...tting.longdocs ====== "DV" wrote in message om...
