Default Outlook 2007 won't work with pst files

I dont intend to argue with you. You are right, in as much as I have already
admitted that I made an error of judgement. And apologised for it in several
places here already. I can admit and stand by the fact that I made amistake.

It does not mean you are right or wrong.

And it does not reveal exactly who is at fault - MS S/W or AVG AntiVirus.
Never the less I am SURE this will fox many users. And if you take the
approach you did not many will get it resolved. I found my solution elsewhere.

For the record, Outlook 2007 B2 will be screwed unless you switch off
'incoming and outgoing certify' which is a setting within AVG AntiVirus email
Scanner function.

You can find the details he

I think you've already proved yourself wrong very nicely. Participants in
the public beta are not required to file bug reports or provide any feedback
whatsoever. So just how is it that Microsoft is exploiting your time and
effort?
On the other hand, people who come into these newsgroups demanding solutions
for their unsupported software from unpaid volunteers may be exploiting the
time and effort of others when the information they provide is incomplete or
inaccurate.

Au contraire my friend I understand much more about beta software than you
assume.

I ask you this. Why is there a 'Report Render Problem' button on the email
display pane? Can you tell us that?

That could suggest to someone like me that they already know about a
'render
problem' but failed to let us know that Outlook 2007 B2 may or may not
actually be of any use to receive mail.

As in, they knew/know that many/possibly all emails WILL NOT EVEN DISPLAY
in
their Beta 2 software, far less allow someone to actually use it for the
purpose designed - as an email management program. Even on normal,
run-of-the-mill, otherwise fully functioning, MS Office machines this
Outlook
2007 Beta 2 software sucks.

I suggest that is a very cynical exploitation of my time and effort and
that
of all the others who I know will come out the woodwork as the Beta is
downloaded.

Prove me wrong?

You misunderstand what beta testing involves. No one testing this beta
should come here and expect to find that answers to their questions
already
to exist. Often times they will be uncovering issues that have not been
seen
before, especially if they are using the beta in an untested or
unsupported
scenario (as are the both of you). What is required is a clear and
accurate
description of the problem and the steps to reproduce it.

I'm sorry but you sound rude and unhelpful. This person clearly has a
problem
with the Beta and I have a very similar situation (if you care to read
above).

I think he made a good effort at explaining what went on and you are
very
dismissive of his/her efforts.

There is obviously something VERY WRONG with this beta if it is
succeeding
in screwing up mail inboxes. My own copy of the Outlook 2007 Beta 2 is
apparently receiving messages but is somehow not 'rendering' them. IE
There
is no content whatsoever. I CANNOT READ MY MAIL.

Another user is suggesting that, even after reverting back to Outlook
2003,
these very same messages are toast, implying that OL 2007 Beta 2 is
REALLY
F^*&%£* them up..... And I concur with that theory for the moment.

Instead of complaining, how about using your 'expertise' to help us
resolve
it? What have we done wrong?

Dead wrong. Offline Exchange content has always been stored in OST
files,
never PST files. Most Exchange administrators do not even want PST
files
in
their users' profiles.
You need to understand what you're doing and what you're saying. Once
you
do, if you think you have a beta issue, post it clearly and
accurately.
This
looks like end user error that has nothing to do with the beta.

Just to clarify, I do mean ost files. I think outlook 2003 used pst
files
to
store offline exchange content (plz correct me if I'm wrong) but
2007
seems
to use an ost file for this purpose.

"Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote:

I assume you mean PST files, not OST files.
So let me get this straight. You did an in place upgrade of an
Outlook
2003
profile that had 3 PST files, one default, 2 for archive. Outlook
2007
failed to open with no error message, yet you somehow opened it and
removed
the 2 archive PST files. I'm having trouble following your post.
Outlook 2007 is uniquely poor at handling connections to PST files.
An
accurate account of your problem would be helpful in sorting this
out.

Simkin is right, it seems to be something with the ost file. I
took
your
and
sue's suggestion and created a new mail profile with a new ost
file
and
now i
can add my old archive data files without problem. In answer to
your
question I was removing the pst data files that were associated
with
my
profile through the mail interface in control panel.

Always follow an attempt at an in place upgrade by creating a

Exactly what files are you "removing" and how?

I had 2003 on my machine and the only choice it gave me was to
upgrade.
It
migrated all my settings and data files itself. This is
actually
the
beta
2
that was posted to msdn yesterday so I don't know if this is a
new
ability.

"Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote:

No.
Why would you "upgrade" to a beta? State more clearly what
you
did
to
migrate your Outlook data to a beta installation.

I had outlook 2003 set up on my computer with 2 pst files to
archive
my
older
mail to. When I upgraded to 2007 it now locks up when I
try
and
open
the
program. If I remove my pst archives then it runs without
a
problem.
Anyone
else had similar issues?
