Default unable to install office 2007, registry error

I have been struggling with reinstalling MS Office 2007 on a Vista (x86)
laptop for my son for the past two days after he got a couple of nasty
virus/malware programs. After having to manually uninstall the original
install of Office 2007 using KB928218, Office 2007 would stop in the
beginning of the install with a 1402 Error stating that it could not open a
registry key and then rollback to the beginning.

I then ran across your post about restoring the security stettings. So, I
ran the Microsoft Fit it 50198. I then attempted to install Office 2007 for
the nth time and BAM, it worked!!

Thank you!!!!!

Some of my My office 2007 enterprise apps stopped working.I could not repair
it as the setup would not run with the error "setup has stopped working".
So I had to uninstall it, which caused me numerous problems as that didn't
work either as I got errors about the package or installer being unavailable.
I eventually managed to get everything removed by doing it it from the
INSTALLER folder as per thjis article.

The setup.exe now runs, however it now gives me the following error

"Office encountered an error during setup. Error 1402. Setup cannot open the
registry key UNKNOWN\components\{GUID here}\{another GUID}

I have searched the registry and there is no such key anyway.

How can I get office to install again ?
