Of course, I assumed you have to be an admin to install software. I tried
using my domain admin ID to install it. When that failed I put the user in
the local admin group and tried it. That failed, too. I did not try using
the built-in administrator ID, though.

Possibly a permissions issue? Try installing as the Administrator.
