Default WHY?

but it's only ONE NG out of several?

THIS newsgroup, for example, is one of several that are marked READ

One, or several? Tools | Options | Read. Uncheck: Get XXX headers at a time.
Now right click on the newsgroup name in the folder tree | Properties |
Local File. Now, Reset and go to another newsgroup and then back to this
one. The messages will be downloaded again. Mark them all Read and see if
that fixes it.

When you're done, compact the folder for the newsgroup(s) you did this for.

THIS newsgroup, for example, is one of several that are marked READ and
it stands out as BOLD and all the messages are READ.

This can happen if your desktop icon font is set to bold. Go to: Control
Panel | Display | Appearance | Advanced. In the Item box, scroll down to
Icon and click the *B* once to return the fonts to normal. Also, the
font size should be set to 8. (Mine are Tahoma - 8). OK and Apply.

Why, when I mark READ all of the messages in a NG, does it still give
me a BOLD name for the group?
