I have read these posts. Although I did not exactly migrate I did import files from laptop to main computer after a 3 month trip and ended up with the duplicate folders.
The solution is easier than creating a new profile.
Go to:
StartSettingsMailMail Setup - OutlookData Files

Here is where I saw 2 entries pointing to the same .pst folder
One had Name - Filename - and NO comment
the other had Name - (same)Filename - Comment=Mail Delivery.

When I clicked on Settings, both had identical information. I took my chances and deleted the one with no comment.

And all is (I hope) well. Have not lost e-mails but have also not checked other sections or settings in my Outlook.

delete the profile and then when you open outlook you will have to
create a new one. all of those ghost folders will be gone and you will
only have the current pst showing.

this worked for me.
