Default How to recover messages.

If the DBX file contains bits of messages, then the inexpensive DBXtract
will probably find all of them that are recoverable. You can find more info
about DBXtract at www.oehelp.com ($5).

Thanks Steve.
I opened it with Notepad and sure enough at least some of the emails were
there. There were some strange characters as well.
How do I recover? What's next? I couldn't find anything in the OE help.

Open the file with Notepad and look to see if there is anything like a
message piece in it. If not, then the file has no messages in it.

See also www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4 for message recovery techniques.

Thanks Jim
I tried the strategy suggested by Bruce Hagen but nothing showed up
even
though the file size is 187k. I restored them from backup drive using
Datakeeper to a CD then copied them from the CD to the computer. How
can i
tell if there is a read only attribute?

Did you copy the backed up files to the same computer before
attempting
the
import? Networking computers often causes a failure to import
correctly.
If the files were copied at any time to a CD/DVD, a Read-Only
attribute
was
set during the copy process which must be cleared after you've copied
them
to a folder location on the same computer you wish to do the import
to.

I copied a mail folder with about 10 unread emails in it using cut
and
paste
to the desktop. My computer crashed but I had backed up the mail
folder
file
on the desktop to another computer. When I try to restore the folder
with
the
emails using OE6 on the other computer nothing shows up. Any
suggestions?
Thanks
Peter
