Default Problem re-loading Office 2003 - missing files stop process

I have a fully certified copy of Office 2003 which was working fine and no
problems at all - but after the hard-drive failed on my Vaio pc - I had to
use the emergency disc to recover the XP system after a new hard-drive was
installed. All my old programmes loaded like a dream - except Office 2003
that started the set up and then an error message came up - Waiting for
cabinets to be cached - then missing file L2561412 and set up failed.

I trawled through the web to try and find a solution and someone suggested
that this was because 2003 was not locating the CD drive to locate the
files
and that in set up under cache auto needed to be changed to a 0. Well I
am
not a computer wizz by any means, but I followed the suggestion and copied
the disc to the computer as you could not change the CD obviously, I then
changed the detail in the Set up folder and tried to load again. No luck,
it
would not start the process.

I wonder if anyone has any ideas please of what I can do to re-load my
Office programme, bearing in mind I most certainly am not brilliant on the
technical side of the pc.

Many thanks

FWIW, I then gave in and loaded Office 2007 and now whenever I re-start my
computer, the first 2007 tool I uses has to waste ten minutes scratching its
backside. There are various "fixes" involving editing access permission to
registry keys, removing and re-installing, and adopting the lotus position.
Not the sort of thing a professional software company should expect office
workers to be doing. Time they automated the thing. That, after all, is
what computers are for.
