Default Multiple references to the same footnote ?

The important point here, however, being that footnotes already have
built-in bookmarks (they're listed separately in the cross-reference
dialog), so that you don't have to actually bookmark them.

Thanks, Peter, what advantages might bookmarks have over
cross-referencing?

How do we put multiple references in the body of the text to the same
footnote? For example, three superscript number "3" 's in different
paragraphs that all refer to the same footnote. We also want all
three
footnote references in the body to be re-numbered (updated) if another
footnote is inserted before the third footnote. Can this be done?

Insert the first footnote as usual, then use a bookmark to reference
the
superscripted number in the other locations.

Same thing - you use a cross reference to refer to a bookmark.
