Did you notice that the majority of my post concerned Office 2007? Although
my question concerned reinstallation, I specifically wanted to float the
whole situation. There are a number of MVP's in here and there;'s quite a lot
of Win 7 material.

This has been the state of the Microsoft "forums" on the majority of times
that I've been there. When successful, I've found there to be very little on
Win 7 and issues difficult to search for, HOWEVER, having said that I just
Googled for the forum aqnd found the front end with its section links - much
more satisfsactory. It seems that Win 7 has been a nightmare for a huge
number of people.

Registry cleaners are snake oil and could lead to PC becoming inoperable

Suspected that, and as I said that was my experience on my XP machine.

Obviously your system has some problems.

Yeah, but hoping someone can shed light. What other "issues" (are you a MS
employee? LOL) can a pristine Win 7 installation have? Office 2000 was the
first program installed after installing Win 7. Oh, beg pardon, my computer
supplier had installed Nero Essentials before I got the machine.

I've done a fresh Win 7 install and installed Office 2007 now. So far so
good, but still the "Not responding" reminds me that its very sensitive. No
delays flicking between workbooks though. Oh, I did have to deactivate
autorecover. Even on a pristine installation of 7 and 2007, it started to
autorecover and there seemed to be no progress after 15 minutes.

I haven't installed an AV programe yet. I have AVG and am wondering if that
was a big part of the problem. I'll see.

Office 2000 is not fully compatible with either Vista or Win7 and is out of
support, having said that you had / have other win7 issues if you have a
blurred display

How sluggish is my pc? Well, even with just 3 or 4 worksheets opened and

other programs running (except AVG), it takes 5 seconds to switch between
worksheets. Saving a 1.7 meg spreadsheet can take over a minute, and just
going fil/properties is taking about 15 seconds for the window and data to
come up. I'm sick of seeing "not esponding" and the white window while a
file
is saving or when Ctrl/F6'ing between worksheets. And between you me and
the
gatepost I'm also tired of being told some features will be lost when
saving
as an Excel 97-2003 file when those features all CAME from Excel 2000.

The only reason I upgraded from Office 2000 was because it just didn't
seem
comfortable with Win 7 (blurred type and other issues) (and I guess I was
tempted to "get with it"). As you may be able to tell, this is also a cry
for clues from someone who may have had the same issues and discovered the
cause(s).

My son has had Win 7 on a laptop for over a year with Office 2003 running
and he loves it. Never a moments problem!
