I understood everything in your message except :

(after you've transferred all messages from it you wish to save)
Do you mean transfer to a new folder in OE under local folders ?

Open Outlook Express, then on its menu, click FileFolderNew and give it
a name such as My Mail. Then open the Inbox, select all messages (Ctrl+A
will do that) and right click on any one of the highlighted messages and
select from the popup menu Move To Folder and select the new My Mail
folder you just created.

Then you can close Outlook Express, find the old Inbox.dbx and delete it.
When you reopen Outlook Express, you will have a new and uncorrupted Inbox.
