Thank you everyone for your help. There are a lot of good suggesti0ons and I
will save them for future refrence. The problem has now been solved.
BasicallyWindows live mail was opening all eml messages. I tried to open with
OE6 several times using the right click /open with/ method and it failed.

I reset eml files to open with windows live mail with WLM as the main e
mail programme. Then when I used folder options EML /open with/ Outlook
express it worked! It seems that changing to Windows Live mail and back to
OE6 seemed to reset the registry.
