Default Troubleshooting Transfer Mail/Address Book to New Computer

OK, I think I'm hitting a brick wall. I have tried to export the file from
the old computer (text, comma delimited) to a CD and import from there. I
get imput error. I also tried to import from the files I found on the new
computer. Couldn't import directly because they are in a hidden file, but
did send/copy to the CD and tried to impor there, but still an import error.
I'm surprised I'm having so much trouble with the Address Book. I had the
impression it would be the easier problem to solve.

Jim or Others, do you have any other suggestions regarding the address book?

Thanks Jim, with your help I'm halfway there. I ended up sending all of the
email folders to My Documents f irst and importing from there. Couldn't make
it work the other way. But this ended up working fine. I now have all my
email.

I'm still struggling with getting the addressbook. I did a search on .wab
on the new computer and ended up with a listing of 4 files and wasn't sure
what was what. I exported to a comma delimited text file from the old
computer to a CD and tried to import from that CD to the new computer. I get
an import error. Msg doesn't give me any more information than that so I'm
not sure what the problem is. I'll try again to import from the files I
found when I did the .wab search on the new computer. Maybe one of them will
work. Otherwise, I'm at a loss. I'll let you know what I come up with.

Thanks

Try importing the messages from the "other" message store folder
(File/Import/Messages, selecting OE6 and From a Message Store, pointing to
the "other" store folder) and see if that works. The long string of numbers
relates to a different Identity on your old computer and the new computer is
most likely using the default "Main Identity" with a different GUID (the
correct name for the long string of letters/numbers).

Just got a new computer with XP Media Center. Did a transfer of programs
and
files from old computer (XP Home Edition) last night using AlohaBob PC
Relocator. All seemed to go well, but Outlook Express on new computer
does
not have old email, folders or address book. Attempted to re transfer
these
files but AlohaBob says it's already done and won't let me redo it. Did a
search for .dbx in hidden files on the new computer and found them, but
they
are in a different file than shown in the "Store Folder" path in OE.
(It's
the same path, except that the long string of numbers/letters is different
and matches the path on the old computer). I presume that is why they
don't
show up. I thought I could fix it by changing the path to match the one
where they are stored, but the application only lets me browse and click
on
my desired location which prevents me from designating a hidden file.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Preferred solution would be to get the
path pointing to where the files are or files where the path is. I
thought I
might also be able to export the email and address book from the old
computer
and import to the new, but I can't seem to get this to work either. How
frustrating!
