Default How to make the Global Address List available in Outlook Addre

VPN may make it harder to figure out but won't really matter. If outlook
won't connect in classic (non-cached) mode, it means its not talking to the
exchange server. This is probably the same reason the GAL wasn't accessible.

Is outlook online now? That is a requirement. (If you are using RPC over
HTTP outside the network its harder to configure too.)

Go into the account - tools, accounts - select the acct and click Change
then More settings. Is outlook set to use offline or cached?

The client PC was online - as Outlook refused to start it is difficult to
say whether Oultook was online or not.

I used the Control Panel - Mail to get to the account settings (as Outlook
won't start I can't use Tools - Accounts) and checked the settings for the
Exchange account. This was set to "Use Cached Exchange Mode" and under
more
settings and "When starting" it was NOT set to work offline (I could not
see
any other references to being offline other than the location of the
offline
files).

When I tried again without cached mode I got the same error as before. (As
I
am now at home I am having to connect via the VPN but I am hoping that is
OK).
