Default Newgroup servers

Anyone know of any good free news servers? My ISP disconinued theres.

www.motzarella.org
Used them for a long time (also after my ISP discontinued newsgroups
service). Between the periodic sync problems between their overview and
article databases, that they honor cancels (but only in the articles
database since the overview database is not as often updated which
results in errors about articles not existing on their server), along
with the new server name change and problems encountered thereafter with
their service, I decided to try Albasani.

I wasn't aware there was a 1200 connection per day limit. This is
probably okay for most users, including me. For some, it could result
in them upping the disconnect time configured in their NNTP client to
avoid hitting that limit.

Been using them for only a couple weeks. Not enough history to know how
reliable they are.

Both the above require registration. Motzarella is more automatic in
sending you a confirmation e-mail with your login credentials. Albasani
has you request an account and you wait a day or two before they send
back an e-mail with your login credentials. Neither carry binary
newsgroups. That's why they are free.

Ran from a German university. Cost is around $16/year. This is cheap
but then they also do not carry binaries. Seems to be a very reliable
service. If I find Albasani isn't better than Motzarella then I'll
probably next try Individual.
