One problem at a time... To create a Microsoft Equation object in Word,
click on Insert | Object | Microsoft Equation. If this is is not a
choice on the Insert menu, then you need to install the Microsoft
Equation feature from your Office CD by clicking on Start | Control
Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Microsoft Office | Change | Add/Remove
Features.

updates for the computer, but every time I try to update, it says the install
could not complete because of (i don't know what it is called in english) but
some sort of code called 1601 - and something about my service pack.. Do you
or anyone else know, what the problem is?

Microsoft Equation 3.0 is not part of Windows XP. It is included with
Microsoft Office and Microsoft Word.
