I cannot confirm the first as I don't have Windows Vista or Windows Mail
available. Is Windows mail your default e-mail application?
For the second question, you could filter the data on the birthday field and
merge the file or you could probably set a skipif field at the start of your
merge document
{SKIPIF {Mergefield Birthdate \@ "yyyyMMdd"} {Date \@ "yyyyMMdd"}}
