Not sure if this is the right place or not but i'll give it a shot.

I have 2 spread sheets and a access data base. Basically what happens
is a user clicks a button in spread sheet 1 it writes the information
for that button into spreadsheet 2 which then is linked to my access
data base. It all works fine as long as the database is not open when
someone clicks submit on spreadsheet 1. If i have the database open
and click on submit the following error comes up:
Run Time Error 1004

excel cannot open the file "filename.xlsx' because the file format or
file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been
corrupted and the file extension matches the format of the file

then i get the option to end or debug

any help would be greatly apperciated!
