Me too. I'd also like to add my name to the list of frustrated users missing
the
reminder bell icon. I know many others who feel the same way.

Well, I didn't take it away, but yes, Microsoft uses a lot of focus groups
in their study of how people work with computers. They also make heavy use
of usability labs and even send people around to offices to watch how real
people in the real world work. They are also aware people miss the bell - I
had the opportunity to speak with the product team recently and it was on
the list of user complaints we discussed.
