Default Outlook Express Font Control

Maybe the font file is corrupt, but that is a strange kind of corruption, only way it shows is by making it italicized. And since the italicized version is a separate file for that particualr font, I doubt it, but who knows? BTW I don't use any theme at all.

Thanks for all the comments folks.

Just FYI all: the problem was apparently specific to the font I was using
to read messages, Arial Black. Once I changed font the problem went away.
I like Arial Black but not that much. I am now using Incised 901 Bd BT
for
everything. I like the looks.

disable it and see if the behavior persists. If it doesn't, WYSIWYG.

My newsgroup posting (sending) format is plain text, but my Mail sending
format is HTML.

My compose font settings for both mail and news are Arial Rounded MT
Bold,
10, Bold (not Bold/Italic).

I have three identities already set up, all are the same. However, I
use
CSSs for IEx so maybe the Accessibility options are a factor, I will
test
it
(but if that is the problem, I will have to lkive with it because I am
not
going to give up CSSs). What are the recommended settings for the HTML
and
Text send options esp. for encoding? Would that affect this? I can
test
that too.

Also I should mention that this does not happen with all fonts. A fixed
font is no problem, and even other TT fonts work OK.

You posted here in Plain Text, not RichText/HTML. (As Bruce observes,
RTF
is found in OL, not OE.)

Assuming you're NOT using any Stationery, when composing an email or
news
message *in HTML format* (only), the font is controlled by your
settings...

OE Tools | Options | Compose | Compose font | [Mail or News] | Font
Settings =here

When reading an HTML message, the font is controlled by the sender of
the
message

When reading a Plain Text message, the font is controlled by your
settings...

OE Tools | Options | Read | Fonts | Font =here

All of the above assumes:

1. IE Tools | Internet Options | General | Appearance | Accessibility
=nothing here is checked/enabled; and...

2. A non-Italic font is selected IE Tools | Internet Options | General
|
Appearance | Fonts =here.

Then we have...

OLEXP: The Font Size Changes When You Press ENTER in a New Message:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/232001

OLEXP: Default Font Size Is Not Applied in a New HTML E-mail Message:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/240730

OLEXP: Cannot Change Text Format Using Outlook Express:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/178895

And if STILL no joy, see if the behavior persists in a new identity: OE
File | Identities | Add new identity.

I am using Outlook Express in IE7 as my email client. Since it was
updated
awhile back from a service pack, I have a problem with composing
and/or
reading received emails in both plain text and HTML format. I use
Arial
Black 12 as my text message font for RTF messages, like this message,
but
I
am unable to get the text to display as non-italicized characters.
All
the
text I enter appears as italics, and the toolbar I(talics) button and
text
formatting commands do not allow me to display anything without
italics.
Ecery HTML message I receive appears as italics, too, and this occurs
with
arial bold fonts in other styles too. Is there some reason I cannot
display
anything in Arial Black in standard unitalicized form: BTW I have
both
font
styles installed for Arial Black, the standard and the Italicized.

This is not a major problem, but it does annoy me because i cannot
actually
italicize any text deliberately and selectively, it is instead all
italics.
This occurs both in emails and newsgroup messages.
