Default ??? COnfused by Table Styles

Unfortunately, there is no help that I know of for table styles--except the
ones that advise you not to use them. To answer one of your questions, it
is not possible in table styles to format a particular cell --except for the
corner cells and even that may not be possible in W2002.
Here are a few general guideline:

If you want to give the same look to all the tables in a document or groups
of documents and if those tables vary a great deal in shape (the number of
columns and rows and such), tables styles may help you. If you use table
styles in versions before W2007, do not set font characteristics in the table
style -- apply paragraph styles to the table text instead.

If you have many tables of the same shape (same number of columns, same
columns or rows joined, or perhaps particular cell formatting), auto text
may be the right choice.

It's worth it to figure out how (and when) use table styles. For me, they
regularly turn what could be 3-hour jobs formatting, say, 25 tables into 15-
minute jobs.

Word XP.

I'm trying to learn how to use Table Styles. I'm confused. I cannot
seem to change the built-in table styles. I can create a new table
style, but cannot format certain cells certain ways. What I need is a
good resource for learning about table styles in Word XP/2002. Are
there any MVP Faqs or other online resources that would help me get
started?

Thank you.
