Default Document Imaging - Email error

I am able to scan documents into .tiff images but when I use Microsoft's
Office Document Imaging and select File -- sendto mail recipient as
attachement I get an error:
1st part says
The operation failed - then I click OK and get:
Unable to send current file as a mail attachment. Verify that you have a
mail application installed correctly.

I am using Office 2003 and can send files as attachments from other office
applications. I have all the updates installed also. I couldn't find any
help on microsoft's website about document imaging. Any suggestions?
