It's possible to relocate the MSOCache for Office 2007, but not wise to
delete it.

Microsoft does not want users to relocate the cache, and consequently makes
it difficult to do so. But it's certainly possible, though individual
results may vary.

I'm not presenting this information with any agenda against Microsoft in
mind. It is what it is, without any 'attitude' on my part.

I would definitely not recommend the procedure to anyone who is not
comfortable with following highly technical (and potential dangerous)
instructions. And no one should try to relocate the MSOCache without having
a backup of the system partition.

Ignore the occasional barbs thrown and focus with the procedure. Even if it
seems to have succeeded, it has not in fact succeeded until you can update
your installation of Office 2007 without problems.

As you know, this is a vast piece of software. I installed only a small
fraction of it. Even so, I have in MSOCache installers and utilities for
portions of the suite that I will never use, so the MSOCache is huge. And it
continues to grow, as Microsoft Update serves updates for applications I
will never use.

I realize that Microsoft made MSOCache a 'non optional' feature of Office
2007, and does not think we should attempt to remove it. And I don't mean to
be a troublemaker. But isn't there a way I can safely get rid of this 800
lb. gorilla? It's really no bother for me to pop in the DVD for updates,
repair or whatever else.
