well, I open the microsoft word 2003 and a blank document appears on the
screen and when I go to type, a message appears at the bottom of the
screen
that says that the document is locked. there is no prompt for a password.
thanks for responding. I appreciate it! I recently got a new computer Dell
Inspiron Vista when my old one crashed/kaput and it only has windows works
wp
and I cannot use that for my online college and this creates a big problem
for me!!

What do you mean by it is locked? Can you create a new document and
type in it? If the answer is yes then clearly your old document is
corrupted. Also, it is possible that you have encrypted it by mistake.
Do you get a prompt to enter a password?

cannot
tyupe. I obtined a new product key and reloaded word 2003 and
everything
went through fine, but now when I open a blank document and attempt to
type,
the message comes up that the document is locked. how do I unlock it?
Thanks!

If you have the original installation CD for your retail store version of
Office S & T 2003 do this (comes in a folder and can be installed onto 3
computers not OEM which came on the first computer way back, )

Uninstall all Office products from the Add/Remove Programs in Control panel
for XP or Programs and Features in Vista.

Reboot the computer.

Install the 2003 version of S & T that you have using the key on the orange
label on the folder. Once installation is complete you need to activate.
If it fails online activation you must use telephone activation. The number
will be provided, call it and follow the electronic prompts. Normally the
telephone activation will go fine but you may need to speak to a live person
if the electronic online has failed.
