Default Outlook 2007 Address Book

Russ,

I created a new profile through the mail icon, in the control panel. No
change. Can you possibly direct me to someone else if you are unable to help?
I don't know what else to do. Once something is working, I don't mess around
with settings.

I greatly appreciate your assistance.

If there is nothing you can select from the dropdown that will show your
Contacts then you lost the connection between your address book view and
your Contacts Folder. I sure don't know how you did it. Unfortunately, there
is no way to repair it in Outlook 2007 without creating a new profile.

I believe you are talking about the address book icon on the tool bar. If I
click on this, a window opens where I have the opportunity to type in a
name
to search from one of 2 address books. No list of contacts appear. The
first
selected from the drop down is "contacts". If I type a name in to search,
one
contact will appear. The second choice from the drop down is outlook
address
book. If I search for a name, a message says there is nothing in this
address
book.

Every other place I look; account settingsaddress bookchange, lists
"contacts: personal folders", as my address book. In the propeties dialog
box
of the contacts personal folderoutlook address book, it lists "contacts"
as
the address book.

You aren't adding another address book. You're adding your Contacts
Folder
to your existing address book.
Are you sure you are even looking in the right place for your Contacts?
When
you open your Address Book, can you not select your Contacts from the
dropdown and see them?

I deleted the the "Contacts:Personl Folders", Exited, and went back in
to
add
a new address book. My only options are mobil address book, or outlook
address book. It won't let me add outlook address book again, and when
I
click on change, "Contacts:Personal Folders" reappears.

In the properties dialog box of the contacts folder, I cannot remove.

"Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote:

But you can remove it, right? If nothing appears when you view this
folder
in the address book view, then you have a corrupt link to your
Contacts
Folder. Remove this one and add the correct one.

Sorry Russ, perhaps I jumped ahead.

First , I did exactly as you asked, and when I clicked on "change",
a
widow
opened that showed my outlook address book as "contactsersonal
folders".

Within the same window, and above, the text said to go to
properties
in
the
contacts, personal folders. The dialog box showed that this folder
was
selected as the e-mail address book. As I said last night, there is
a
check
mark in this box, but it is not "active", which is to say that the
text
and
check box are light gray, and I couldn't change if I wanted to.

I'm sorry for the confusion but, this is exactly what I see.

Wait. You confused me. The view I asked for has no check box. You
said
it
does. You didn't mean that, did you?

Hi Russ,

I've been out of town.

OK, the window shows the selected Outlook Address Book as
"Contacts:Personal
Folders". The text above this says that in the properties dialog
box
to
check
the box "Show this folder as the e-mail address book". The box
has a
check
mark, but it is not "active".

Russ,

Ok, I tried your suggestion. I only have 1 address book;
"Contacts".
This
is
the one that had been selected; as always.

When I type a name into select names window that opens when I
click
on
"To"
in e-mail, no list of contacts appeares but, I can type a name
in,
click
the
search button and one name will appear.

"Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote:

No. I'm saying open the Address Book from your toolbar. In
that
view
you
will have the option to choose which Contacts Folder you want
to
display
first.

Hi Russ,

You helped me on a similar problem a couple of months ago
on
the
PC
in
my
office. In fact I looked your reply up to see if I could
use
to
fix
my
home
PC.

I'm not sure I completely understand your response. When
you
say
open
address book, do you mean my Outlook contacts personal
folder?

One other thing I looked at prior to asking for help was to
right
click
on
the contacts folder properties. This opened a window
called
contact
properties. By clicking on the Outlook Address Book tab, I
can
see
that
"Contacts" has been selected as the folder for my e-mail
address
book.
Although there is a check mark in the box, the entire line
is
not
"active",
in other words, I can't uncheck, or check the box.

Again everthing has worked fine for over a year then
yesterday,
it
went
south.

I having been using this application for over 1 year,
without
problem.
As
of
today, when composing a new e-mail, and clicking on
"To",
my
outlook
address
book does not open. Instead, I get a window that says
"Select
Names:Contacts". In the past, my entire contacts listing
opened
up
and
I
could click on the intended recipients. I've made no
changes
to
any
settings
of which I'm aware.

How can I change to the way it was?

Thanks!

Dale
