Default OE icons changed

If you have a complete backup from OEQB, then you just need to go to File |
Import | Messages and choose to import from a directory and then point to
the location (that is the directory) where the dbx files are. Then it
should import them. It might be easier to copy the entire directory (that
is the container for the dbx files) to the Desktop and then do File | Import
from there. If the import fails, then try right clicking on the dbx files
and go to Properties and make sure the files are not read only, as OE cannot
import from them.

Also, its easier to understand the differences between files and folders if
you go to Control Panel | Folder Options | View and uncheck the option to
hide extensions of known file types. In addition you may want to check the
option to show hidden files and folders, as the dbx files in your current
Identity are hidden.

Thanks. I have downloaded Outlook Express Quick Backup (OEQB): and backed
up
my current emails (C) to an external hard disk (J). I can see the dbx
files on J but after
the big long number - there is nothing on C.

I have two other folders on my C disk one labelled OE 03-11-08 and one
labelled 19-12-01 from long ago.

Could I import these two old folders into my current files or what??

I tried to follow the instructions on
http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#imp1 -
""To backup and restore a single OE5 or 6 mail folder, save the
appropriate
dbx file. To restore, create a new folder in OE5 or 6 (call it archiv1,
for
example) and access it once. Then close OE and find archiv1.dbx and delete
it. Make a copy of the folder you want to restore and rename it to
archiv1.dbx (or if you have a bak file, then rename it to arichiv1.dbx).
Then copy that file into the directory where the previous file was
deleted.
Open OE and the messages you wanted to restore will be accessible via
opening that archiv1 folder.""

I get as far "Then copy that file into the directory ". I don't know
anything
about directories so guess I am stumped.

I am afraid of messing up my current emal set up.
Anyway - Thank you so much for your support. Patti

This freeware tool backs up everything in OE in seconds. Disregard what
is written in red. That is referring to a different program.

I have been trying to figure out how to backup/copy my email settings and
messages and folders. I still am confused.
Is there a step by step for a grey surfer?

Also I had an old OE folder with the .dbx messages from long ago on
Win98. I would like to access them but
have no idea how. (incidentally the little icon beside them is from
Photoshop so Photoshop trys to open them if
I click on it.
Sound confused, I am.
