McAfee will keep "nagging" you until you remove it, run this tool, and
then do a custom installation, opting out of e-mail scanning when it is
offered. Just unchecking it is not enough.

Yes it persists. I am using McAfee suite which is provided by by ISP,
ATT.
It replaced CA suite a few years ago. It never interfered with
anything. So
are you saying to turn off the email scanning? If I do McAfee is not
happy
and keeps reminding me to "fix" it. Maybe starting from scratch with
the
email scanning turned off would help. I am getting frustrated. I have
downloaded Windows Live email but wonder if it would really correct
anything.
Perhaps it will just compound the problem.

And the behavior persists in a brand-new identity, right?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than
Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you
bought
it)?
