Default Import all settings from recovered HDD

That won't work. The account settings are in the registry in OE and even if he could run OE on the other drive, it would still look in the current registry and not in the old one (unless he boots to the old one). He can use Load Hive in Regedit to load the registry from the user on the old computer (NTUSER.DAT) and then read the account settings that way, except for the passwords, unless he gets another program to read those (passnif or somesuch).

Can you open OE on the old HDD? If you can, go to Tools | Accounts and
export each account as an iaf file. get them on the new HDD and import
them.

Thanks for the advice. All messages duly imported. Account settings will
have to follow!!

I can see the whole HDD. All system files the lot. It would really help
to at least be able to see what accounts were being picked up in the
original OE6. It was being used to pickup multiple email accounts.

Regards.
Bill.

What exactly *can* you see on this HDD? If only the files in Windows
Explorer, you will probably need to set up the accounts from scratch.

As far as your messages go:

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by
default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you
must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel |
Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder
Options | View.

The path to the message store will be very similar to this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{Long string of letters & numbers}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express

Copy the *ENTIRE* OE message store folder to a flash drive.
(Folders.dbx must be included). Place this on the Desktop or other
location. Open OE and: File | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook
Express 6 and point to where you saved it.

Note: I am not sure if messages already on the new HDD will be
overwritten. To be safe, before you import, create new folders in OE
with a name that is not in the backup. Eg: Move all your messages out
of the Inbox so when you import the old Inbox, it won't over write
those messages. You can merge them later.

The motherboard on my old PC has blown but the HDD is ok and can be
hooked up to another PC. I would like to import all my OE6 mail and
accounts settings from the recovered HDD onto OE6 on the other PC. Can
anyone point me at a link that documents that process please. All my
searches so far (which I admit have been hasty) are pointing at
slightly different processes.
Thanks for any help.
