Default Read emails automatically deleted after exiting program

OF COURSE!!! Never thought of the "view" end of things... seems views
constantly get us into trouble! Will pass on, thanks!

Hi,

My grandmother has a peculiar problem w/ her Express 6 (2004) edition.
Whenever she opens an email (and leaves it in "read" status), if she exits
the program and comes back in, the email is gone. And it's not going to
Deleted Items. I looked all over the place for such a setting, but could
find
none. I set up a workaround (copied all Inbox items to a backup folder for
safekeeping), and that preserves "read" items.

But how come Inbox read items get deleted? I ran Ad-Aware also, and
deleted
all found spyware/adware infections.
